College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (CCCE) at Donghua University was established in October 2007 from the mergence of the former College of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering and the Institute of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology. The root of the former College of Chemistry&Chemical Engineering stemmed back to one of the three founding departments of the university (established in 1951), namely, the Department of Textile Chemical Engineering. The discipline of Textile Chemistry and Dyeing & Finishing Engineering is a recognized as National Key Discipline, which is renowned at home and abroad. The former Institute of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology, established in October 2004, has drawn on experience from oversea institutions in both organization and management.
After 70 years of development, CCCE currently consists of four departments: Textile Chemical Engineering, Applied Chemistry, Biological Engineering, and Chemistry. It also harbors five important research bases: the National Engineering Research Center for Dyeing & Finishing of Textile, the National Manufacturing Innovation Center of Advanced Dyeing & Finishing Technology, the Key Lab of Eco-Textile of the Ministry of Education, Key Lab of Textile Science & Technology (Branch of Dyeing & Finishing) of the Ministry of Education, and Shanghai Engineering Research Center of Nano-Biomaterials and Regenerative Medicine.
The college has 135 faculty and staff members, among which there are 47 full professors and 45 associate professors. About 78% of our faculty members hold doctoral degrees and more than 76% of them have oversea studying or working experiences.
As the characteristic discipline of CCCE, Textile Chemistry and Dyeing & Finishing Engineering is listed as a Key Discipline at both the national and municipal level. It is also one of the Key Disciplines supported by the 211 Project of the Ministry of Education. CCCE’s new star discipline, Chemistry, is recognized as one of the world top 1% chemistry programs by the ESI ranking lists of disciplinary areas.
With a solid strength in student cultivation, CCCE provides three undergraduate programs (including Sino-German cooperation), eight master programs (including five academic master programs and three engineering master programs), and three doctoral programs.
CCCE has also set up a number of training bases for the undergraduate and graduate students with leading enterprises in the textile industry in the nearby provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang. A number of enterprises have set up scholarship programs with CCCE in awarding students for academic excellence. In addition to teaching, our faculty members actively participate in research projects funded by the government and corporations, resulting in fruitful achievement.
CCCE has established extensive scientific research cooperation and academic communication with universities and institutions in many developed countries including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Portugal, Sweden, and Singapore. As early as 2003, CCCE started a collaboration with Reutlingen University of Applied Sciences, Germany to offer a dual-diploma program in Textile Chemical Engineering. CCCE also provides students with opportunities to participate in exchange programs with Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Germany and University of California-Davis, USA.
